Functionalism is the notion that objects made to be used should be simple, honest and direct; well adapted to their purpose; bare of ornament; standardized, machine-made and reasonably priced; and expressive of their structure and materials.

Basically Functionalism could be seen in architecture, furniture designs, paintings and sculptures. One of the famous functionalists is Le Corbusier. Le Corbusier is known as an architect and artist whose designs combine the functionalism of the modern movement with a bold, sculptural expressionism.

One of Le Corbusier painting, Still Life with Numerous Objects are much related to his architectural design. In Le Corbusier paintings, the richness of the content can be easily read and the most obvious of it is the effect of harmony and similarity of geometrical form. Other than that, proportion and ratio of the painting are well in order and place. On his architecture work, one can found out that the concept that he use in his architecture design can be found in his painting. One Example of his work which much related to his paintings is Villa Savoye, Poissy, 1923-31.

Le Corbusier discovers more from his paintings and implement into his architecture design. In this painting, Still Life with Numerous Objects, there are numerous of concept and hidden content, this painting have the harmony effect which came from its symmetrical forms and the usage of colors. The geometrical form giving it a bold and strong effect in the painting. Other than these content, the painting looks 3 dimensional which are rarely seen on other artist work.
